Life is short. Make better decisions.

👋🏽Hi, I’m building Eibira — a mindful productivity app for making better decisions. The ideas shared here are designed to help you find clarity, choose the right regrets, and act with confidence in everyday life.

Meaningful Work

Mindful Productivity is simply the peace of mind you feel knowing you did meaningful work.

For many of us, “meaningful work” feels outside our control. Unlike the freedom of a founder, an artist, or even an influencer, we are often mere cogs in a machine – our roles and responsibilities predefined.

It’s natural, then, to see meaningful work as wishful thinking, reserved for mindful pandas sitting in deep thought while munching on bamboo. Meanwhile, we race around in circles, chasing deadlines like overworked racehorses.

But meaningful work isn’t about what you do. It’s about how you do it – in awareness. And this is available to all of us.

There are three ways in which we approach work:

For most of us, work is sometimes interesting but mostly feels like a burden – a boulder we drag to the top of a hill, only to watch it roll back down and start all over again.

For a few, it’s about hopping between jobs until they stumble upon that sweet spot where work becomes a state of flow – where skills, rewards, challenges, and interests align perfectly. You feel “in the zone,” as if you’ve found your life’s calling. But even this state is transient.

And then, there’s mindful productivity. It is simple, accessible, and can even help you find that elusive flow state.

Here’s how: Before you begin your work, pause for a few moments and recognize how you feel (anxious? excited? stressed? exhausted?…). Acknowledge and name the emotions without judgment. Then, continue doing the work anyway, with full awareness of your emotional state. In other words, go with the flow.

What happens when you practice mindful productivity?

At first, you may not notice much. But with regular practice, acknowledging your emotions before starting work is half the battle won. It frees up your attention, allowing you to focus fully on the task at hand rather than being swept away by a wave of unprocessed feelings.

When you work in awareness, you are open to new ideas, new approaches, and new perspectives. You might even realize that you enjoy the work more than you thought. Or, conversely, you may discover that the work doesn’t suit you at all. But this becomes a moment of clarity and learning, not frustration and burnout.

“Meaningful work isn’t about outputs or outcomes. It’s about openness – knowing you gave your full attention to the task with your whole mind and body.”

This openness is meaningful work, and mindful productivity is the practice that gets you there.

“Our feelings exist to help us make good decisions.”

The following is a quick practice to recognize your emotions – at a macro level (before starting your day) or at a micro level (before starting any activity):

  • Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  • Ask yourself, “How am I feeling?”
  • Accept whatever emotions arise.
  • Write it down: “I’m feeling ______ today”.
  • Carry on with your work in awareness.
